Dick took up his primary instrument, tenor saxophone at the age of 11 and played is first professional gig at age 14.

Dick’s love of music took him through high school and led him to study music at Youngstown University’s Dana School of Music, and on to earning his Bachelor of Science in music from Duquesne University (Pittsburgh). He went on to earning his Master’s Equivalency at Penn State and Kent State Universities. Along the way, Dick mastered the clarinet, piano, flute, button box accordion and plectrum banjo.

He his many achievements include a Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Cleveland Style Polka Hall of Fame, as well as the Hall of Fames “Best Recording” award in 2003 for his solo album “Richard Allen Michael Tady Presents: The Greatest Slovenian Hits”, and went on to repeat with his second solo album “Richard Allen Michael Tady – He’s Back!” in 2016, as well as receiving the award for “Best New Song” for a song he penned for his grandchildren entitled “Justie and Maggie’s Song” from the same album.
